General Ground Preparation

In planting any seed, the better prepared and more weed-free your planting area is, the better your crop will grow.

  • IF POSSIBLE, KILL EXISTING VEGETATION
  • AFTER IT IS DEAD, MOW OR CHOP VEGETATION
  • PLOW OR DISK THE AREA TO BE PLANTED
  • HARROW TO A MEDIUM TO FINE SEEDBED

Sometimes it isn't possible to prepare the soil the best way. In that case, prepare the soil the best you can and pick species that are less particular, such as wild millet, sudangrass, peas or buckwheat.
