Large Camas is a native flower that thrives in wet meadows and prairies and grows easily from seed. Camas can grow in shady areas like dense forest canopies but also does well in open landscapes. Seedlings require moisture through the spring growing period to survive. For the first year of growth, grass-like seedlings will emerge in February or March. The striking blue flowers appear annually April-June in the second or third year after planting. Camas is widely known for its edible bulb that was often eaten by Native Americans.

Planting Instructions: Use general ground prep method (click here).

Best planted in the fall since it requires 60-100 days of cold to break dormancy. Plant 1/8 - 1/4 inch deep. For prairie restoration, seed about 27 pounds per acre, or if included as part of a mix, at a rate of 1.5 to 6.5 pounds per acre.
